In a culture that promotes the use of artificial birth control as a healthy way to curb our fertility, we are left with many women who are sick, exhausted and unable to live the creative and vibrant lives they want.

There is, however, another way.

As women, it is up to us to end this epidemic of birth control and educate ourselves on how to know and track our fertility so we can have the reproductive results that we want. It is up to us to take control of our bodies again and know that we don't have to trade our health for the security of reproductive freedom. In Breaking Up With Birth Control, we will explore why birth control is harmful to us, both physically and emotionally. We will explore how we, as women, can lead the way for future generations to live empowered in their bodies, minds and souls.

The revolution begins with us; with one woman at a time who has the courage to look down at her own body and say, "I remember you."

I read this book (more like a pamphlet, really) because the kindle version was advertised for free in a Facebook group about the Fertility Awareness Method of birth control. I am someone who feels pretty negatively about hormonal birth control. I guess it has its place, because not every woman has the diligence or the cooperative partner necessary for gentler methods of birth control, and unplanned pregnancy is a definite problem. I think hormonal birth control is very unhealthy, though, and over-prescribed for non-contraceptive purposes for which it doesn't actually do anything other than mask the symptoms. For birth control, I personally use the Symptothermal Method of Fertility Awareness and a diaphragm, and sometimes condoms when the diaphragm isn't handy. I've never been on hormonal birth control, and I would be reluctant to go on it, unless I were at a point in my life where it became truly necessary.

However, although I agree with the basic idea of this book/pamphlet, I found the tone to be very unscientific and kind of condescending. There was a lot of really flowery language and woo-woo stuff about personified wombs, etc. that was very off-putting for me. There's also a nod to abortion which I really can't support. There are a lot of emotional appeals to how much better it is to know your body than to suppress its natural functions. If I hadn't already agreed with that whole idea, maybe this book would have had more of an impact on me, but I just kept waiting for it to get informative about *how* to know your body, or *why* suppressing natural functions is a bad idea. There's very few facts or scientific arguments in the book. Maybe this would be a helpful book for someone who just started taking birth control without thinking much about it, and needs a reason to quit. But that's not me, and I'm not sure I would even recommend this book to someone like that. There are much more informative options for such a person.

I think this book was a great read. It talks about women learning to love themselves again, empowering themselves and taking back their God given bodies. We are the ones to know our bodies best so learn about it and love it.
